What this area covers
To take work, a notary is routinely asked to hand over commission details, E&O coverage, a background check, a motor vehicle record, insurance documents, banking details, and government identification. This focus area follows what is being collected, who is asking, how often it must be repeated, where it is stored, and how long it is kept.
Why it matters
Notaries are independent business owners, not employees, yet they are frequently required to submit personal screening information to multiple companies with no visibility into how it is used or shared. That asymmetry is the concern this focus area exists to document.
